2 US F-16 Jets Successfully Intercept Russian Bombers Near Alaska
Two American F-16 fighter planes intercepted four Russian aircraft near Alaska, North American Space Defense Command. Routine" interceptions of Russian planes which included Tu-95 bombers and Su-35 fighters. The Russian aircraft remained in international airspace and did not enter US or Canadian sovereign airspace. Occurs regularly and is not seen as a threat, nor is it considered provocative activity. The Air Defense Identification Zone, or ADIZ, is a perimeter where air traffic is monitored beyond national airspace boundaries to provide additional reaction time in the event of hostile action. US warplanes stationed in North America have seen rare offensive action this month.
