필리핀 군 수송기 추락…"탑승자 등 최소 45명 사망"
The worst military air disaster the Philippines has seen in decades has left 47 military personnel and three civilians dead.
Sunday's crash came after the plane overshot its landing in the south of the country.
Lee Eun-jin reports.
According to a local military chief, all 96 passengers of the Philippine Air Force plane that crashed on Sunday have now been accounted for. 47 on board were killed and 49 military personnel were injured.
The Lockheed C-130 military aircraft overshot the runway after it touched down at Jolo airport in the southern Sulu province at 11:30AM local time.
The burning wreckage of the plane also killed three villagers on the ground, and injured four others.
Eyewitnesses reported that a number of soldiers were seen jumping out of the aircraft before it hit the ground, avoiding the explosion caused by the crash. Many of those on board had only recently finished basic military training.
The combat troops on board were en route to fight against the Abu Sayyaf Filipino jihadi group in the province of Sulu in a conflict that has been ongoing for decades.
The military said there are no signs of an attack on the plane. The Philippine air force has a history of disasters as the government struggles to modernize its military. The Philippines' Secretary of National Defense Delfin Lorenzana has ordered an investigation into the incident, which will begin after rescue and recovery operations are completed.
