Some footage taken back in August where a De Havilland Vampire departed Duxford in overcast weather to head to Clacton airshow.
For anyone that has witnessed the start-up of a Vampire, it’s quite hot! For those that haven’t, witnessed it, skip to 0:43 to have a taste!
The aircraft itself is a single-seat fighter bomber FB MK.53 variant. It originally served with the Swiss Air Force until 1990 before being sold to a number of owners. Since May 2011, the aircraft has been operated by the Norwegian Air Force Historical Squadron. They also operate another Vampire (a two-seat T.55) as well as a MiG-15 and T-33 Silver Star.
It’s normally painted in the colours of the Royal Norwegian Air Force however this one was painted in RAF colours for a John Travolta movie.
