US, Australia and Ukraine previously discussed sending 41 combat aircraft to help Ukraine confront Russian aggression. aircraft previously planned to be delivered were the Royal Australian Air Force (RAAF) F/A-18 Hornet, F-16 Fighting Falcon and Eurofighter Typhoon to Ukraine in response to President Zelensky's request. US welcomed the idea of handing over ex-RAAF F/A-18s to the Ukrainian Air Force and allowed its allies to transfer their F/A-18 hornets to Ukraine.
