Australian Army parachute riggers from the Australian Defence Force Parachuting School at HMAS Albatross outside Nowra, New South Wales, have a vitally important and busy role.

The ADF Parachuting School’s parachute-rigger trade soldiers inspect, repair and repack parachutes almost daily to support static-line and military freefall parachute training.

Army soldiers who choose to become parachute riggers are also given the opportunity to take the leap themselves and gain a military parachuting qualification.

The ADF Parachuting School delivers personnel parachute training to Navy, Army and Air Force personnel, and also doctrine and equipment to meet the ADF’s current and future needs. The school’s motto is ‘Knowledge dispels fear’.

The ADF Force Parachuting School is part of Special Operations Command’s new ‘schoolhouse’ structure under the Defence Special Operations Training & Education Centre.

Special Operations Command’s mission is to prepare and employ special operations forces in order to defend Australia and its national interests.
