Belarus has launched military drills along its shared border with Ukraine in an effort to assess the readiness of its territorial troops. The drills from July 12 to 14 will assess preparedness for combat tasks and test the command abilities of reserve officers. However, Zelensky said that Ukraine was "preparing for all the risks of an invasion from the Belarusian side". On June 10, President Lukashenko said that Belarus may be forced to enter the war so that it is “not chopped off” by NATO. The Institute for the Study of War suggests that the exercises are meant to threaten Ukraine while Belarus is still unlikely to join the war. The US-based think tank said Lukashenko likely cannot afford the domestic consequences of involving his limited military assets in a war.
