Jordan on June 16, 2022 has officially signed an offer and acceptance letter for the purchase of eight new F-16 Block 70 aircraft made by Lockheed Martin, United States.
With this purchase, the Jordanian Air Force has established itself as an F-16 user since the 1990s and has added the most advanced F-16 variant, the Block 70 or commonly known as the F-16 Viper.
The F-16 Viper will complement Jordan's previous F-16 fleet which was upgraded through the Mid-Life Update (MLU) program to the equivalent of the F-16C/D Block 50/52.
The Block 70 features technology developed for the F-35 Lightning II and F-22 Raptor fighter jets .
The difference is, this fourth-generation fighter aircraft is not a stealth-tech aircraft.
The Jordanian government's acquisition of the F-16V marks the Middle East's more than 70-year relationship with the United States.
Previously, the US State Department had approved the potential sale of a total of 16 F-16 Block 70 fighter jets to Jordan in February.
