Visit the Vulcan Day, September 18, 2022
The providential combination of RAF aircraft - the magnificent seven Red Arrows, the Battle of Britain Memorial Flight's City of Lincoln Lancaster and Spit (the Hurricane was not well) and Typhoons, enabled the Vulcan Restoration Trust to notch up its most lucrative fund raising day ever,
There was a flying visit by Darth Vader and foot soldiers of the Dark Side, the old boy was certainly heavy breathing after watching the RAF performing on the nearby runway of London Stansted Airport and decided to nip back to the Death Star ASAP,
Visitors got up close to the former Royal Air Force bomber Avro Vulcan XL426 and were able to walk round the Cold War veteran and for an additional fee were able to climb on board for a guided tour of the cockpit.
As well as the Vulcan, there was lots to keep the whole family entertained - including a host of aviation favourite tunes played by the Thundersley Brass Band – A Championship Section, traditional community Brass Band based in Benfleet, who perform at numerous concerts, contests (@ThundersleyBand)
There were examples of the weapons carried by the Vulcan during its time with the RAF, including examples of the type of 1,000 lb high explosive bomb the Vulcan dropped on Port Stanley airfield during the 1982 Falklands Conflict.
Entry and cockpit tours are free for Vulcan Restoration Trust members subject to presenting a valid VRT membership card - join them in time before the next exciting Vulcan Day.
