Hey guys, I always found the history behind why the Hornet is designated the F/A-18 instead of F-18 very interesting. There are no other aircraft in the US Inventory that share the very distinctive F/A or Fighter/Attack Designation of the Hornet.

This leads a lot of people to either use F-18 as shorthand or as a mistake from DCS World players to mainstream media outlets. I thought it might be a cool idea to dig into and take a look at the history behind this designation and why no other aircraft Share the F/A designation!
