The C-17 Globemaster III: you've probably seen it in the news lately for its role during Reach 871: Kabul's record-breaking evacuation in August 2021. But what's lesser known is the marvel of the design and engineering of the C-17 Globemaster III itself: despite being one of the largest cargo planes in the US Air Force, 'the Moose' is extremely nimble and capable of STOL (Short Takeoffs and Landings) from makeshift airstrips. Today, we'll dive into the history, engineering, and operation of the C-17 Globemaster III, and of course, talk about some of the unknown challenges during Reach 871. We'll also discuss its more modern competitor, the Airbus A400M Atlas.
