Between the hours of 2000 on Tuesday 2nd May and 0530 the morning of Wednesday 3rd May the streets of London were filled with the sounds and sights of the British Armed Forces rehearsing for the Coronation of King Charles III that was to take place the coming Saturday (6th May 2023). This video shows the entire procession marching through Admirality Arch at 3AM in the morning with the musicians continuing to play in challenging conditions of very low light levels.

The Coronation Procession is formed of 8 processional groups, each representing a different part of of the armed forces (as noted above with the time stamps) and each having a combined band to march them.
This coronation procession is the first time click track technology is being used within the ears of bass drummers and drum majors to allow all of the bands to march at exactly the same time and play the same music without there being a delay from the band in front or behind causing troops to et confused and out of step like has previously happened on large scale processions with multiple bands like this. As a military music enthusiast it is interesting to note the seamless transitions between the bands passing the spectator playing the same march with only the texture of the sound changing relative to the type of new band that is now approaching! To see around 6,500 troops marching in complete synchronisation and to the same marches is an amazing sight to behold!

Please also enjoy a few extra clips at the end of this video featuring the Mounted Band of the Household Cavalry riding down the Mall a few hours prior to the main procession at 0030 rehearsing the King's Procession and also some of the troops forming up on Whitehall or leaving Wellington Barracks to form the procession.
