Royal Navy warship HMS Lancaster has set sail for the start of a three-year deployment to the Middle East.
The Type 23 frigate is being forward deployed to Bahrain.
It means the ship will not return home after the traditional six or 9-month deployment - instead, the ship's company will change every four months.
It will allow more time to be spent on patrol, with maintenance being carried out in the region rather than back in the UK.
