The Islamic Republic of Iran Air Force (IRIAF) began the ninth edition of its annual aerial drills at an airbase in the central province of Isfahan, on Monday.
Fighter jets could be seen launching missiles while officials watched from an observation stand.
The training called Fada'eeyan-e Harim-e Velayat 9 ("The Devotees of the Velayat Sanctuary 9") is scheduled to last two days and, according to Brigadier General Farhad Goudarzi, the drills aim at testing ways to counter proxy enemies using modern techniques. The drills include Sukhoi Su-24, MiG-29, F-5, F-5, F-7 and F-14 jets, bombers, transport aircraft, drones and reconnaissance planes.
