Top Gun: Maverick, was it inspired from Israel's Operation Opera? Well if it was, then praise the Iran and not israel. Because you might not know but Israel copied the entire planning and strategy of Iran's "operation scorch sword," the first ever strike on Saddam's nuclear reactor. On the morning of September 30th 1980, 4 Iranian F-4 phantoms, each armed with 6 bombs and 2 Aim-7 sparrow missiles, took off from Hamadan city. Under the escort of F-14 tomcats, they crossed into Iraq, and were flying extremely low to avoid the radar detection, the same strategy that Israel later copied. They successfully evade the Iraqi radars, and formation then broke apart toward two separate targets. Flying low most of the way, they then lit the afterburners 2 miles from the reactor, to gain the altitude for releasing the bombs. According to eyewitnessess, 2 bombs precisely fell on the reactor's dome, while other 4 bombs caused a massive fire, that damaged other buildings of complex. The other 2 phantoms struck the powerplant, cutting power supply to the Baghdad for 2 days! And safely reached Iran without getting hit by a single missile or shell.
