This particular model is a Hobby Master 1:72 Air Power Series HA1810 Messerschmitt Bf 110E Diecast Model Luftwaffe 1.(Z)/JG 77, LN+LR, Felix-Maria Brandis, Malmi, Finland, 1942.
Felix-Maria Brandis was born on 9 September 1916 at Ahaus. He received his flying training at Luftkriegsschule 1 at Dresden from 14 September 1939. Brandis was serving with JG 77 in early 1941. He was assigned to a Bf 110 Zerstörerkette, established for coastal patrol missions, based at Kirkenes in Norway. By the implementation of Operation Barbarossa, the invasion of Russia, the unit had been expanded to Staffel strength and designated 1.(Z)/JG 77. Leutnant Brandis had assumed command of the unit by this time and had three victories to his credit. The unit performed many bomber escort missions against the Russian port of Murmansk and its surrounding airfields. Brandis recorded five victories in July, including two Royal Navy Albacore biplane torpedo bombers shot down on 30 July near Kirkenes, to raise his victory total to eight. His 10th victory, a Russian I-16 fighter, was recorded on 15 September. On 25 January 1942, 1.(Z)/JG 77 was redesignated 6.(Z)/JG 5.
On 2 February 1942, Brandis was returning at low-level from a train-busting mission along the railway line south of Murmansk when the Staffel encountered bad weather. Their own base was closed so the unit diverted to Rovaniemi. In the zero visibility conditions, Brandis failed to return in Bf 110 E-2 (W.Nr. 2546) “LN + AR”. It was later established he had crashed near Olanga. His Bordfunker, Feldwebel Herbert Baus survived, albeit wounded. Oberleutnant Brandis was posthumously awarded the Deutsches Kreuz in Gold on 6 March 1942.
Felix Maria Brandis was credited with 14 victories. However, some sources credit him with a victory total as high as 18 or even 25.
