In 2006, a U.S. U2 spy plane was flying at 70,000 ft on a reconnaissance mission. Suddenly, the pilot's suit began to decompress and he started experiencing oxygen deprivation. He became disoriented and even forgot how to fly. To make matters worse, he vomited inside his helmet, which forced him to remove it, cutting off his oxygen supply. However, the U2's cabin was pressurized and provided some limited oxygen, although it was as thin as the air at the top of Mount Everest. The ground controllers assisted the pilot to perform basic functions, and he managed to fly for five more hours before successfully landing, almost crashing when he was just five feet above the ground. It was an incredible feat of aviation and a testament to the pilot's skill and determination.
