It was the early 90s, and Venezuela was in the mists of unprecedented political chaos. A group of high-ranking military officers led by Hugo Chavez was attempting a coup against President Carlos Andrés Pérez.

As government forces quickly ended the uprising, Chavez was arrested and taken to a military base. But the rebel forces were not done with the fight, and stole several OV-10 Bronco light attack and AT-27 aircraft and unleashed a frantic attempt to rescue their leader.

As the insurgent warplanes extended their charge to another loyalist military base, several civilians on the road below got out of their cars and recorded the astonishing episode, shocked to witness a real dogfight!

The footage shows the moment one of the OV-10 Broncos is intercepted by a government F-16 Fighting Falcon. The Bronco, clearly not expecting to be confronted by the superior aircraft, immediately attempted a series of desperate evasion maneuvers.

However, the F-16 remained hot on its tail and began to rain fire on the light attack aircraft. The Bronco then attempted to counterattack, but the spectators held their breath as the Falcon suddenly swooped in for another brutal attack…
