The Russian military has taken control of the majority of the vital city of Severodonetsk, but Ukrainian soldiers are clinging to the city's industrial region in the west. The conflict is presently benefiting the Russian military, owing to Moscow's dominance in material and personnel in the area.

Nonetheless, despite their dominance, Russian troops have failed to gain the breakthrough they have sought since the Kremlin started its second onslaught in eastern Ukraine in mid-May. Despite these disadvantages, the Ukrainian military maintains a tenacious resistance, retiring from defensive locations only when the situation becomes untenable.

According to the Ukrainian Ministry of Defense, as of Sunday, Ukrainian forces had killed approximately 32,150 Russian troops (and injured roughly three times that number), destroyed 212 fighter, attack, and transport jets, 178 attack and transport helicopters, 1,430 tanks, 715 artillery pieces, 3,484 armored personnel carriers, 226 Multiple Launch Rocket Systems (MLRS), 13 boats and cutters, 2,455 vehicles and fuel tanks, 96 anti-aircraft batteries, 582 tactical unmanned aerial vehicles
