The Norwegian Air Force F-35 Lightning II fighter aircraft has just completed a NATO deployment aimed at securing Icelandic airspace.
Four F-35s are on standby ready to be scrambled if an unidentified aircraft approaches Icelandic airspace. Air Policing Missions for Iceland are given periodically by NATO member countries for three to four weeks at a time, as Iceland does not have its own armed forces.
