Singapore will acquire eight more F-35B fighter jets, four years after acquiring the first four. The defence ministry said it's the variant most suitable to the needs of the Air Force. With these F-35Bs, Singapore joins an exclusive club of 17 others, who also have these jets and are privy to their technology. The F-35B only needs a short distance to take off and can land vertically without the need for a runway. It also packs plenty of firepower -- 6,800kg worth of missiles and bombs. It can travel as far as 830km when loaded to the brim, and twice that distance without the weapons.
