Did you know when did the the F-15 achieved its first ever kill? Well the story starts on the morning of June 2nd, 1979, when four Syrian mig-21 fishbed interceptors crossed into Israeli airspace for a surprise attack. Four Israeli F-15s were on a routine petrol at the time, and were quickly informed regarding the Migs. Retired brigadier general Mosha Marom Melnik was in one of the F-15s and didn't know he was about to score the F-15's firstever kill. The dogfight takes place 30 miles north of the Israeli border. Melnik locks the mig and fires, and the mig easily escapes the missile. Melnik was now the target of Mig-21s, and he was in a do or die situation! According to Melnik, he decided not to use radar this time but his eyes to engage the mig, because the horizon was very clear that morning. The MiG and F-15 were getting close very fast, and Melnik decided to launch this missile called Python-3. Melnik sets his aim and fires the missile, and the mig gets hit, as you can see in this actual footage of that combat. All this aerial engagement happened in less than 30 seconds.
