Ukraine's counteroffensive continues to seize control of vital eastern cities. Ukraine has taken at least 3,000 square kilometers of the captured area, and indications indicate that Russian soldiers continue to evacuate their positions. Officials report that the Russian military has abandoned the city of Kreminna. It is a remarkable breakthrough, situated just 24.8 kilometers from the crucial battleground of Severodonetsk.
The capture of Severodonetsk in June after a month-long Russian attack left most of the city in ruins. The strategically significant landmark and the neighboring town of Lysychansk were the final Ukrainian strongholds before the conquest of Luhansk by Vladimir Putin.
On Telegram, Governor Serhiy Haidai stated: "Kreminaya and Svatovo will be the starting points for the large-scale de-occupation of the Luhansk area; the Russians have already started moving equipment closer to these towns. There will be the primary influence.
If the claims are genuine, Ukraine now controls the area inside the Luhansk Oblast, which was entirely held by Russian troops before a dramatic Ukrainian counteroffensive.
In the last twenty-four hours, it has been claimed that a video widely circulated on social media was shot near Kreminna. It depicts Ukrainian special operations soldiers assaulting a Russian vehicle.
Kreminna is situated on the same side of the Seversky Donets River, about 15 kilometers from Severodonetsk, which Russian troops took on June 25.
Capturing Kreminna would provide Ukraine with a foothold across the river, something that proved very difficult for the Russian soldiers, who were bombarded repeatedly during crossing attempts."

Mr. Haidai said today through Telegram that the liberation of Luhansk will begin in Kreminna and Svatovo.
