Her Majesty The Queen and her Armed Forces shared a close relationship that lasted a lifetime.

Former Army Officer and Ministry of Defence (MOD) advisor Lieutenant General (Ret'd) Sir Simon Mayall told Forces News that being part of Her Majesty's Armed Forces has been a "source of great inspiration" and "great pride".

"The words 'God, Queen and country' are not simply a slogan, they are the guiding principles by which we measure our service," he added.
