Turkey says Sweden can join NATO if they make burning the Koran illegal. This is the most outrageous demand Erdogan has made yet. For Erdogan to pervert admission to NATO into an ego trip is disgraceful. Burning Holy Books is disrespectful but it is free expression and free speech. The purpose of free speech is to protect speech that is unpopular and distasteful. What value does NATO truly have to Swedes if they have to compromise on their freedom during peacetime to appease a dictator? And shame on Brussels. The United States and France shouldn’t be the only countries in NATO applying pressure to Turkey.
