Did you know that Joe Sutter, the godfather of the 747, was the chief project manager of the 737?
Joe Sutter is well known for building one of the most stunning aircraft the world has ever seen, the Boeing 747. But in actual fact, Mr Sutters' previous job was leading the design team of the 737, and he was then quickly promoted as the chief project manager of the 747, as Boeing was battling to win a military contract to build the largest military transport plane. The race was lost against the Lockheed Galaxy, and the 747 was bound to be tanked. But Joe Sutter and Juan Trippe, the founder of PAN AM, went on to change the world of aviation with the 747.
