On March 19th, 1990, an F-15 Eagle from Elmendorf Air Base in Alaska, was hit by another F-15's Aim-9 Sidewinder. By examining the image, it is clear that the missile seriously damaged the aircraft's tail and only moderately damaged the left wing and engine exhaust. The F-15 Eagle is so good that no air force on the globe can shoot it down, so the US Air Force said. Moments after releasing the heat-seeking Sidewinder, the pilot who "accidentally" fired the missile became aware of what was happening. Although the victim F-15 attempted to escape the impact completely, it was not successful. Fortunately, the pilot was unharmed, but unfortunately, his jet fighter sustained considerable damage. Although it is unknown if the service factored the cost of the F-15 tail into the repair cost, the cost of the repair was set at $992,058. A training AIM-9 and an actual AIM-9 missile were actually carried by the aircraft. Following the investigation, the weapons crew received all the blame.
