On January 19, 1991, while the F-15s were getting off the tanker, an E-3 Sentry alerted a pair of Mig-29s flying 60 miles north. As the Eagles advanced on them, the Iraqi Migs swiftly made a spin to the south and rushed straight at the F-15s. The lead jet suddenly performed a defensive maneuver as the F-15 pilot attempted to hit it from BVR and locked onto it. The F-15s missed them, but one of them later returned in hot pursuit! While he was only five miles away, the F-15 pilots discovered that the aircraft were actually Mig-25 Foxbats. While only 9Gs are permitted on F-15s, the pilot quickly locked the Mig up with his radar while pulling 12Gs. But the Mig was flying so rapidly that he missed! The F-15 once again caught onto the Mig-25 and fired a few missiles, all of which were flared by the Mig. The Mig-25 was battling hard, but it then suddenly made an attempt to flee. The Eagle's pilot considered using the cannon but decided to utilize the Aim-7 Sparrow instead. This time, the missile smashed through the Foxbat's tailpipe and detonated, bringing it to the ground.
