Accident at military airfield near Crimea’s Novofedorovka: Several aircraft munitions detonated

Six people were hurt in an incident at an airfield in Crimea’s Saki district, one person died, Crimea’s health ministry said on Tuesday.:

1. Several aircraft munitions detonated at the Saki military airfield in Crimea and no one was hurt in the incident, Russia’s Defense Ministry reported on Tuesday.

"At about 3:20 p.m. on August 9, several aircraft munitions detonated at an enclosed storage site in the area of the settlement of Novofyodorovka on the territory of the Saki airfield," the ministry said in a statement.

There are no victims and the aircraft have not been damaged, it specified.

"Measures are underway to extinguish the fire that has broken out and find out the causes of the explosion. As the reports from the scene suggest, there was no strike at the airfield’s ammunition storage site," the ministry said.

2. Around 30 people were evacuated following an accident at an airfield near Crimea’s Novofedorovka, when several aviation bombs exploded, a Crimean official said on Tuesday.

"Some 30 people were evacuated from nearby houses. People will be accommodated in hotels and sanatoriums and will be provided with meals. The airfield has been cordoned off," Oleg Kryuchkov, an adviser to Crimea’s head, wrote on his Telegram channel.

The Russian defense ministry told journalists earlier that several aviation bombs exploded on the territory of the Saki airfield near Novofedorovka in Crimea. According to the ministry, no one was hurt and no damage was done to aircraft.

9 августа Минобороны России сообщило, что около 15:20 на территории аэродрома Саки в районе населенного пункта Новофедоровка в Крыму сдетонировали нескольких авиационных боеприпасов.

На данный момент спасатели борются с пожаром. Специалисты устанавливают причины взрыва. В российском оборонном ведомстве заявили, что авиационная техника на аэродроме не повреждена.

Советник главы Крыма Олег Крючков уточнил, что около 30 человек было эвакуировано в Новофедоровке из прилегающих к аэродрому домов. Людей планируется расселить в пансионатах и гостиницах.
