Pacific Clipper flying boat took 18 hours from Honolulu to San Francisco, airplane from San Francisco to New York required stops and took 13 hours, German airship Hindenburg from New York to Germany took 61 hours at about 67 miles/hr. Total of almost 4 days, even by air! Hindenburg only flew for 14 months, crashing in fire in May, 1937 at Lakehurst, NJ. Was filled with hydrogen to get lift, and fabric covered with combustible coating. World War II started in 1939. 1936 was 12 years before I was born.
