In a recent Chinese Air Force media report, a new generation of J-10 fighter pilots are demonstrating their readiness to start their active duty careers.

It is reported that Gen Z pilots are now completing their training courses. Many young Chinese pilots born after 2000 are now transferred to combat units.

In the report, it is confirmed that the Gen Z pilots are graduating from the J-10 single-seat fighter training course. They have been flight cadets serving in the training brigade at the Shijiazhuang Flight Academy of the Chinese Air Force, located close to Beijing.

In the training, the Gen Z pilots are taking on the combat drill involving multiple aircraft, playing both the roles of lead and wingman, and constantly switching between different roles. Instructors are playing "opponents" to have air combat with the cadets. This sounds exactly like the arrangement in the US Navy Top Gun school. The purpose is to ensure these Gen Z pilots can start in combat units with advanced skills and realistic experience.

An interesting detail in this video is that the Chinese pilots have abandoned the old style miniature aircraft models for ground training purposes. Instead, they use a smart device that appears to be a 7-inch screen tablet. It is likely the tablet runs simulation applications to show the pilots more details about the plane. This would be a huge improvement over the plastic aircraft model that can only demonstrate the general shape and motion of the plane in ground training.

Also, the report again proves the Chinese Air Force has completed the transition, allowing cadets to move from basic trainer aircraft to advanced trainer jets, then directly to the fourth generation fighter jets, like the J-10. This removes the need for the JL-8 intermediate jet trainer. Now a new pilot only needs to learn from the CJ-6 propeller basic trainer, then the JL-10 advanced trainer jet, and finally the J-10 single-seat fighter. And more J-10A fighter jets are being retired from combat units and handed over to training units.

The video also shows cadets performing formation flights of the CJ-6 and the JL-10 trainer aircraft.
