The United States Air Force has temporarily grounded the majority of its F-35 stealth fighter fleet, because of an ejection seat issue. The issue was first discovered in April, but the U.S Air Force waited for 3 months, to ground the stealth fighters from Marine Corps, Navy and the Air force, to fully look into the issue. The issue involves the explosive cartridges inside ejection seats, that help propel the pilot out of the fighter jet, and prompts their parachute to open. On April 22, during a routine maintenance at Hill Air Force base in Utah, a maintainer discovered an irregularity with one of the seat cartridge actuated devices in the F-35. After a more detailed inspection, the cartridge turned out to be missing its explosive charge that lifts someone to safety in case of emergency. Due to same issue, the United States Navy has also grounded an undisclosed number of F/A-18 Hornets and F/A-18 Super Hornets, EA-18G Growlers as well as T-45 Goshawk and F-5 Tiger. All of these jets are on hold while the military is digging into the issue. The Air Force says it has enough replacement explosive cartridges to replace the faulty ones.
