Lt Gen Jaswant Singh was born on 10 March 1925. He had his education in the King George’s Royal Indian Military School, Jalandhar, and after training at the Indian Military Academy, he was commissioned into the 7/15 Punjab on 20 January 1944. A few months later he was transferred to 6/15 Punjab and saw action in Burma during the Second World War as part of 17 Infantry Division. He had a very successful career during which he held varied command, staff and instructional appointments. Lt Gen Jaswant is one of the few officers who held all command ranks from Platoon to Divisional Commander in an active operational environment: -
1. Platoon/Company Commander
2. Battalion Commander
3. Brigade Commander
4. Divisional Commander
The talk will cover some interesting facets of his life and career including the establishment of a Refugee Camp during Partition, the 1965 India- Pakistan War, Mizo Insurgency and the 1971 India – Pakistan War.
