Iceland Mysterious Plane Wreck.
In 1973 a United States Navy DC plane ran out of fuel and crashed on the black beach at Sólheimasandur, in the South Coast of Iceland. Fortunately, everyone in that plane survived. Later it turned out that the pilot had simply switched over to the wrong fuel tank. The remains are still on the sand very close to the sea.
It’s one of Iceland’s most iconic & haunting photography locations. If you’re looking for some great travel inspiration, you’ll find it at this cool spot!
We traveled all the way from Cleveland, Ohio to Reykjavík the capital city of Iceland. We rented a car and drove almost 2 1/2 hours to reach the plane wreck. The crashlanding site actually happened on private farming land, where the owner of the farm made it a tourist attraction. We had to walk almost 2 miles from the parking to the crash site. It was an amazing experience walking on an absolute barren land, winds blowing like crazy. The plan wreck has been featured in many films like Justin Biber’s “I’ll show you“, Shahrukh Khan's Geruva.
