In an interview with Indian news media EconomictimesofIndia, Mr Quin said the aim is to build upon existing industrial partnerships within combat air, complex weapons and maritime technologies to co-create future defence products.

The Royal Navy and British industry now stand ready to co-produce an indigenous Electric Propulsion capability in support of the Indian Navy. The UK is also working with India on strategic collaboration for Modern Fighter Aircraft and Jet Engine Advanced Core Technology, and co-production of Laser Beam Riding MANPADs.

Describing the UK as a serious partner of choice for India, the minister said other areas that can be discussed include helicopters and underwater battle space. There is also interest for cooperation in the development of next-generation fighter jets.

With this experience, the British industry can offer India cutting-edge technology for the development of its own Modern Fighter Aircraft programmes including the Advanced Medium Combat Aircraft (AMCA). The UK can partner with India on a range of requirements- from design consultancy to engine development and the integration of battle-winning complex weapons systems.

Among key UK-origin equipment being used by the Indian armed forces are the M 777 howitzers as well as BAE Hawk trainer aircraft. Both projects contribute to the Make in India ambition as there has been localised production and technology transfer.

There is large scope for increasing numbers of M777 and Hawk aircraft and also similar UK-India partnerships. There is also continued interest in the Hawk trainer aircraft.

Indian Defence Minister Rajnath Singh is expected to visit the UK for a four-day tour starting July 4. He will meet the senior leadership in London and is likely to have industry interactions as well. Representatives from several Indian military manufacturers, including those from the public sector, are also set to visit the UK to discuss the co-development and co-production of defence equipment.

India and Saudi Arabia on Wednesday held a wide range of talks to further bolster bilateral defence cooperation. It is learnt that both sides explored the possibility of cooperation between the defence firms of the two countries.

Officials said the main focus of the deliberations was to expand overall defence and security cooperation between the two sides.

The defence talks were held in Delhi by India's Joint Secretary in the defence ministry and Saudi Arabia's Deputy Minister of Defence and Strategic Affairs.

It was the fifth meeting of the India-Saudi Arabia Joint Committee on Defence Cooperation.

The meeting took place over four months after Saudi Arabia's land forces commander visited India.

It was the first visit by a serving Royal Saudi land forces commander to India, marking a deepening of bilateral defence cooperation.

The then Indian Chief of Army Staff visited Saudi Arabia in December 2020 in the first-ever visit by the Army to the strategically important Gulf nation.
