미얀마 쿠데타로 아웅산 수치 구금…"수치 '쿠데타 거부' 촉구"

Myanmar achieved democracy just over a decade ago.
The country's Nobel Peace Prize winner, Aung San Suu Kyi, symbolized the struggle against the military.
But in an apparent coup major leaders are detained and a state of emergency is declared.
Kim Do-yeon has the latest.
Myanmar's military has seized power in an apparent coup and declared a state of emergency after detaining major leaders...including State Counsellor Aung San Suu Kyi.
This on the day the parliament was due to convene its first session after last November's election.
The military has made claims of election fraud... which Suu Kyi's party, National League for Democracy, won by a landslide.
The country's election commission, however, denied any irregularities.
All sorts of communication lines have been disrupted in the capital, Yangon, and the state TV station didn't air anything at one point early on Monday morning.
Instead, the military TV station addressed the public and announced that a state of emergency has been imposed for one year.
"In order to scrutinize the voter lists and to take action, the authority of the nation's law making, governance and jurisdiction is handed over to the Commander in Chief, Min Aung Hlaing,... in accordance with the 2008 constitution article 4-1-8, sub article A."
World leaders immediately expressed their concerns.
In a statement, the White House said, "the United States opposes any attempt to alter the outcome of recent elections or impede Myanmar’s democratic transition, and will take action against those responsible if these steps are not reversed."
Democracy in Myanmar was only achieved in 2010 when the military surprisingly let go of its power... and as a result, western countries began to lift sanctions.
Nobel Peace Prize winner and national hero, Ms. Suu Kyi is now back in detention after being on house arrest for a total of 15 years.
She was eventually freed in 2010.
