https://fightson.net In this interview, I chat to retired US Navy fighter pilot Jon "Hooter" Schreiber about a near-miss event during a takeoff in a TA-4J training jet.
Hooter's navy career includes flying 2 of the US Navy's most iconic jets: the Grumman F-14 Tomcat & the McDonnell Douglas F-4 Phantom.
He was also an instructor pilot and LSO (landing signals officer) while in the navy.
In this video, Hooter talks about a take off near-miss in the TA-4J trainer. We also discussed firing frozen chickens at aircraft cockpits (!) and also briefly talked about the safety factor of twin engine vs single engine jets.
Note: For those of you who would love to experience flying a Skyhawk, there is a FREE community mod of the A-4E-C Skyhawk available for download and use with DCS (Digital Combat Simulator). DCS itself is free, so with the game AND the free mod, you're up and running flying a great virtual A-4 Skyhawk (which is the single seater version of the TA-4J Skyhawk that Hooter was flying).
