Batman has had a makeover.

58-year-old Laura Estela Hernandez has taken it upon herself to keep the streets safe in her Oaxaca neighborhood. Armed with a machete (and, more importantly, a whistle), she's patrolled her local area for the last 10 years, keeping an eye on things and scaring away thieves. These patrols have earned her the nickname 'Guardian of La Noria' and a lot of grateful neighbors since the area struggles with a lack of police presence.

You just know most criminals are going to be more scared of the whistle and the telling off she'll give, than any damage done with the machete.
